When people attend a support group, they tend to stick to their treatment plan better, manage their disorder better, and have improved quality of life.
DBSA support groups are peer-run and do not promote any specific treatment or recovery plan. This is not "group therapy" or a 12-step program. It's just a community of people dealing with similar problems, who can help and support and listen to each other.
Who should come to our group?
-
If you have been diagnosed with a mood disorder (depression, bipolar disorder, or schizoaffective disorder)
-
If you think you may have a mood disorder
-
If you have a friend or family member with a mood disorder
-
If you want to learn more about mood disorders
Why go to a support group?
-
Meet other people who are dealing with the same kinds of things you are. We can understand and relate.
-
Develop a support network who can watch out for you when you're not doing well, and be alert to changes in your mood.
-
Learn about living with a mood disorder, or about helping someone who has a mood disorder.
-
Get regular interaction with other people to avoid loneliness and isolation. This is often a problem for people with mood disorders.
-
Share experiences and strategies for managing your disorder.
